Kishore Kumar's early curiosity and interest in engineering

The Robotic Journey
of a Hands-on Engineer

Spending his childhood in the pristine Chikmagalur district of Karnataka, Kishore's journey began with reverse engineering. His interest in creating robots started early, when his father bought him toy cars that he would take apart and reassemble.

This helped me study the parts of even a toy car and what goes into making it.

He explored radios and electronic components piece by piece, learning how things worked from the inside. The television series Giant Robot further fuelled his imagination and passion for robotics.

Early Inspiration
and Encouragement

Science exhibitions at school gave Kishore an opportunity to demonstrate his love for hands-on activities. Every time he won a prize, his father proudly celebrated his achievement.

His father, P. Chandrasekhar, was his biggest motivation, while his neighbours became his first supporters. Their encouragement helped him keep building, experimenting and dreaming.

Encouragement, as he says, can come from anywhere.

The Engineering Years

After completing class 12, Kishore chose engineering to pursue his ambition of building robots. While studying at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering in Bengaluru, he regularly visited SP Road to source electrical and electronic components.

He returned home and worked late into the night, turning individual components into working inventions. Every successful movement brought a new sense of possibility.

I would scream in happiness when the robot moved.

A Turning Point at IISc

As a 21-year-old engineering student, Kishore built a robot that could collect a newspaper from a doorway and deliver it. He travelled by autorickshaw to the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru, hoping to demonstrate his invention to professors.

When security guards initially denied him entry, he demonstrated the robot outside. The crowd that gathered applauded his creation, and the guards eventually opened the gates and allowed him inside.

When the guards denied entry, he began operating the robot right there. The guards applauded, and soon a crowd gathered to see the robot in action.
